Hebrews 8:4-6,13
"If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build a tabernacle,"See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown to you on the mountian." But the ministry Jesus has recieved is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded it on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people. ..By calling this covenant,"new, he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aginf will soon disappear."
God doesn't need Jesus to live on the eath and perform the duties of a priest on earth- there are people on earth that already did that. He needs Christ in h eaven with Him, seated at the right hand of His throne. He has appointed Christ as our Hight Priest, who goes before us and intercedes for us on His behalf. The new covenant is superior to that of the old one; where men were appointed high priest and went into the tabernacle into the Holy of Holies with chains on their ankles in case they were died because it was such a sacred place. If they were not totally clean before God they would die and would be pulled out because no one was allowed into the Holy of Holies unless they were the high priest. When I think about the Cross and what Jesus did the thing that always amazes me and speaks to me is that when He died on the cross the curtian in the tabernacle was torn into two, symbolizing that He had become our High Priest and no longer was it needed to go to high priest on earth and we could now come before him ourselves. Through the cross he became our High Priest, cleansing us from all sin. They used to have to go to the the priest once a year to make atonement for their sins and Priest would go before God on their behalf.
New Covenant is founded on better promises-replaced the old covenant that God found fault with because of sin. We can put our hope in the new covenant because Jesus is without sin, and goes before us and intercedes before the Father for our sins. God doesn't forget any of His covenants He made. He made a new covenant with us and replaced faulty covenant broken by sinnful man. We can put all our hope in Christ for our High Priest is without sin and is constantly interceding for us and for those who are in need to be rescued and saved.
